Historic Renovation – Adamick Architecture Office

Originally built in the 1890s, this corner store has long served the surrounding neighborhood as a shop, later as a bakery, and even, at one point, a chapel. As both tenant and architect, our firm saw an opportunity to bring new life to the building while celebrating its layered history. The structure is made up of two distinct parts, added at different times: the original Creole cottage with its historic doors, windows, wood ceilings, and charming wainscot, and a later rear addition featuring a utilitarian shed roof structure built with steel trusses, concrete flooring, and plywood walls. Rather than mask the contrast, we embraced it. The project became a study in honoring craftsmanship and history while also highlighting raw materials and bold contemporary moves. The restored space now reflects the heart of our practice: thoughtful preservation paired with modern design.
